December 2017

December is always a busy time of year, but full of traditions we love. And since we are in a new place, we had fun making some new traditions. Our favorite new one was the farm with the drive through Christmas lights. Making gingerbread houses is probably our favorite old one.

Carli performed with the elementary school chorus and did an awesome job on her solo.

Since the summer was so crazy with the move and everything that went with it, we decided to visit family for the holidays. Of course, it couldn't be that easy. The day before we were to fly out, there was a fire in the basement of the Atlanta airport that shut it down for several hours, messing up flights in and out for days. So, we shifted things around and drove to Tampa Bay, FL, stayed with the wonderfully hospitable Lynette for the night (the kids would have been happy to stay a few days and swim in the pool), and flew out at 3am. Ugh... The bad start was a bit of an omen for the whole trip.

We really enjoyed our time with family, and loved spending the holidays with them, but unfortunately they were filled with sickness. Several members of the Cowan family had the flu in a bad way. Carli had a major migraine episode the day before we were to take a flight to Utah. After some deliberation, we decided to take the flight even under the difficult circumstances.

It was fun to see my family, but little Tad had decided he'd had enough of travelling and had a complete meltdown - as in, he didn't sleep for about 36 hours and screamed instead. I'd never seen anything like it. Really put a damper on the visit. But, we were able to spend time with everyone but the Hayneses and I was able to do initiatories in the beautiful Cedar City temple. Funny enough, it didn't snow once while we were out west, but of course it snowed at home for the first time in 30 years while we were gone. Just our luck.

2017 was an exciting year full of changes and new things, but we are sure looking forward to a quieter year to come.
