December 2018

The first weekend in December Logan and I were able to get away to Charleston for a couple of days and nights thanks again to our babysitting swap. I don't know why we're always so amazed at how good it is to get away alone together. And we instantly fell in love with Charleston. We walked the bridge and beach and then ended the first night with some delicious fish and chips.

Saturday was rainy, but we were able to explore the historic parts of the city, enjoy some delicious French pastries and do some shopping.

Before we hit the road to head home we made sure to stop at another French bakery and then we stopped to see the Angel Tree. It was amazing, even in the pouring rain and behind a fence. We were so grateful to have this time together!

Is there anything better for this group than a free train ride at the Christmas festival downtown? Free books and candy given out in the parade? Sitting on Santa's lap? Eating their first funnel cakes? I dunno, I think the free train probably still wins the contest.

We finally got to have Carli's Harry Potter birthday party a few weeks late. (Having a Thanksgiving birthday can be the pits.) She had a few friends over, we ate some Harry Potter food (including butter beer and golden snitches) and they watched the first movie together. We're so grateful for her and for the sweet friends she's made here!

Of course, you can't forget our December traditions. Toward the top of the list is always gingerbread houses. We tried to incorporate a lot of service this year and the kids really enjoyed that. I think their favorite service was a trash walk at the elementary school where they got all the after school kids to help too. Carli had a solo in her Christmas concert this year. And Milo had a cute little part in his preschool program

We found a great Groupon deal for cabins in a state park near Helen, GA. The trip started off a little rough with a stop at a rural emergency room to X-ray Milo, but thankfully it only went uphill from there. The quaint little cabins were the perfect retreat to start off our Christmas break. The cold, rainy weather didn't really cooperate, but it was ok. Maybe even a blessing in disguise, as we probably never would have discovered this cute little model train display at one of the local motels. To the girls' chagrin, we spent 2+ hours here, practically memorizing every detail of  the intricate display. As usual, Milo got himself a tour of the control room and everything.

It was such a cute little Germantown and it was especially fun at Christmas time.

Before we headed home we hiked up to see Anna Ruby Falls. It was a very cold morning, but it was very beautiful. And a good thing we stretched our legs, since traffic through Atlanta is the worst.

Merry Christmas!!

Getting ready for Santa to come on Christmas Eve. Someone... (whose name starts with J...) almost didn't get a visit from Santa because she was just too excited to get to sleep that night.

Waiting to see if Santa came.

Yep, just hanging out in shorts in the hammock in December. :)
